Our future projects involve re-writing all of our course books that we use at all levels. As School of Languages instructors, we enjoy using our course books, Beyong the Boundaries series (http://sl.sabanciuniv.edu/projects/beyond-the-boundaries). It has been over 10 years since our coursebooks were first published, and it has always amazed us how they have been able to meet our needs so fully to this day. All this is thanks to a dedicated team who analyzed the needs of our learners very well. Unfortunately, some texts are also getting outdated as years go by. This is starting to be observed more easily with units dedicated to areas of rapid improvement, such as health and technology. The world is changing fast, and we have to keep our teaching and learning resources up-to-date.
For this reason, we will keep the driving principles in our Beyond the Boundaries series, such as having a thematic, content-based approach, but will create a brand new series of Beyond the Boundaries course books. Re-writing all of the Beyond the Boundaries books means that we have to be extra careful with any decision we take for the current book that we are working on, as we need to arrange the objectives and themes in such a way that objectives and materials in lower levels feed into the ones in higher levels. We have to ensure all students who study our course book will have been introduced to, and have had enough practice in all the major objectives that will be important for them in their future studies.
